Two of My Friends Jailed!

Here you go, two of my friends behind bars! Now you can understand why they expect me to sit with them, let them out every evening. I long for the day when I can give them all the open space they need. Read a book on Labradors and the author says that his dogs becomes pretty destructive when they are bored, when confine to a small area without much to do. His solution is to let them have loads of space for them to explore and roam.. they are much happier and well, less noisy and destructive. Now, where am I to find open spaces here in KL? With the supposedly 'secular' DBKL so paranoid about people holding hands in the parks, what more dogs in parks? I wouldn't take the chance of bringing my dogs out... what if they slap me with a fine or worst still take my dogs away?

Kind of sad about the state of affairs here in our beautiful country.. people used to be more tolerant and better understanding of what true religion is all about, now all we have are forms of religion, outward public display of our shallow understanding of what we profess to believe in... fear of God? Nah! that is the last thing we care about.

I remember walking along the river in Hiroshima few years back and they had a big park by the clean river.. the city council there created lot's of open spaces for people to spend time with their families, I saw lots of people walking, jogging and even cycling with their dogs. Kids playing with their parents, dogs fetching balls. Even in big cities like Osaka, I observed that there are lots of parks and open spaces for people to walk, sit, talk and relax. In comparison, all we ever have here in Malaysia is unmitigated clearing of green areas to make way for more and more property development.... high density apartment blocks are coming up at an alarming state.. Everywhere you look you see nice hills being leveled, playgrounds making way for concrete structures. Apparently even a part of the forest reserve in the vicinity of tmn segar, cheras was cleared to build houses a couple of years back.. when some people made noise, the excuse stated was that someone had made a mistake. Case closed!

If money is the sole motivation factor for all that we do in this country then we are truly doomed. The greed of man knows no limit. I believe development must encompass every aspect of our living being, taking into account our physical, emotional and spiritual needs. The shallow perception that a beautiful modern city skyline is proof of our progress must stop. This nonsense about Malaysia Boleh This and That must stop. We must address the roots and causes of our decay. Just stand at the traffic lights in the city and tell me how many people run the lights, how many motorist actually stops at the crossings? All is not well here in our capital. City of the future? I had better leave this vision city soon if this is what is in store for me and my family. We must spread the message, we must have a vision, a better way of life, a better future for our children...

Now is there a co-relation between why our young people are becoming more destructive? Maybe, just maybe they behave similiarly like my two dogs, they are bored and feel like they are jailed! They are not given the freedom to express themselves, so the first chance they have they'll race down the roads like there's tomorrow. Our young people, sorry but that includes everyone below 65 years of age,.. are treated like... well kids, shout at and asked to keep quiet. We need more open spaces, more trees, more fields, parks, lakes, bycycle tracks, tennis courts, badminton courts, more family oriented activities, more room for our young and old to spend time together... more open debates, more avenues for people to share what is right and what is wrong. The culture of fear must be eradicate. That's vision city to me. We may think that there's not a lot that we can do but I guess the little that we will do will eventually add up.

For now, I propose that we do what we can to help our young... spend time with them every evening.. maybe then they too will respond positively to you.. my dogs do...
