Sowing good seeds. You reap what you sow, a frequent line often heard but mostly refering to the negative. Whenever something bad happens you may hear some clever sounding people making the remark. I am of the opinion that this principle of reaping and sowing has far reaching effects if we care to think a bit. I think many of us focus on the weaknesses and shortcomings of the people around us, our parents, our spouse, our children, our sibblings.. well almost everyone that crosses our path seems to fall short of our expectations. There is always something that gets to us causing us to express, speak or project bad comments, what you would call unedifying. It needn't be words, could be emotions, feelings and body language, all these beautiful expressions create by God in us are hijacked by some unseen forces and used to our disadvantage. We find it irresistable to dwell on things we don't like about an individual, different opinions, stands and position. This sadly causes us to sow bad seeds, talking to others, to those around us about this person and that person. These seeds once sown can never be retracted, its effects damaging and has far reaching consequences. I would like to suggest that we make an active effort to adopt a different approach. Sow good seeds instead, speak well of those around us all the time, enjoy the diversity, appreciate the fact that we are all created different with all our eccentricities, everyone has different ways of doing things, different approaches to similiar issues. Most of all we must have the compassion to recognise that each and everyone of us have our own battles to fight, both within and without. We won't be helping one bit if we continue to stand in oposing grounds instead of alongside. Learn how to encourage by magnifying whatever little good, noble, pure, right, trustworthy, lovely, admirable and worthy traits that we see in the people around us. This I believe will contribute towards building up the individual, helping him or her to grow to be more like Jesus. If there is a need to go the other way of registering displeasure, all things negative, bring these before the Lord in prayer. We are called to be like Christ, I simply can't think of Jesus complaining to the Father about us... He would most certainly be pleading for us before the Father for all the shortcomings he sees and magnifying the good he sees in us, the yet to be realised potentials. I say we learn to speak well of people and start sowing good seeds. This principle needs further examination which sadly I have yet to piece all of it together for your consumption. God help us to love one another...
By our love, they shall know that we are Christians - followers of Jesus Christ.
