Learning Patience

16th November 2004

We had visitors over the Hari Raya holidays. Bro. Oh came over with Captain Tim. They spent one night here and it was good to have them around. Took them over to visit one malay neighbor of mine on the first day of raya and the satay was great. Tim wanted to go fishing so we did some fishing eventhough it was raining. A wet Raya I must add. Yesterday more visitors turn up to visit and we had a good time eating and talking, enjoying the company of human beings. They all left one by one towards the evening and it was back to the two of us with our eight four legged companions. I thank God for bringing people over, how could we ever survive without our friends and family? This place of ours is great for quality time, there’s enough space for everyone and you can choose your own little corner or spend time with others. I look forward to people visiting.

Also moved quite a lot of stones to repair the eroded dam over the last few days. It is tough work moving some of the big stones but I am adapting to these form of work, it helps to tone your muscles and  increase your metabolism rate. I think it would easily take another 40 loads of stones before the dam could be shored up. The rain came in torrents last night and practically washed away all my work, in fact it was so heavy our internal gardens were flooded as the drainage just could not cope with the vast volume of water coming down from the heavens. Went out to check the extend of damage to the dam this morning and found out that the waters had literally lifted up a section of the entrance tar road and moved it away, you have to see it to believe it, one giant piece of premix tar being moved from where it is supposed to be and dumped on the access road. Looks like a seen from an earthquake zone. Sigh! Consequences of people removing big trees further up the hills. It means only one thing for me, more money lost again… I was pretty dishearten by it all but I guess all this is meant to build my character, I am learning to be patient over all these ‘bad’ experiences.  I guess I am feeling such as our income generating activities had yet to take off and we seem to be incurring all this unnecessary expenses on a consistent basis. Trust me when I say we don’t have very deep pockets. As such, I am looking forward to the arrival of Prophet Tan. Once he is here, we could start our project and generate some much needed cash. To think that some people think that I am retiring… Heh! Heh! Retirees don’t go around doing physical work and lose weight, they go for holidays and put on more weight from the rich food they consume. Anyway, I shall put my trust in the God of my salvation, Jehovah Jireh my provider, He will supply all my needs. Patience I must learn, patience to trust and move one step at a time.
