A Snake, A tortoise and Three Haruans

Prophet was here yesterday, spending one night with us. Checking on the progress on the shaping of the land around his new house, the extra soil is being moved down to the pond’s edge to increase the width of the bund, for those who have been here, it is the bund fronting the access road. We caught a python yesterday, a baby python according to my wife but it certainly looks big to me. A very attractive snake with nice patterns on it. Was able to catch it by grabbing the tail, too much of discover channel and animal planet programs I guess. Today we caught a tortoise. Anyway the snake was released this morning at the secondary jungle nearby, the tortoise was released by our pond and it practically ran towards the water. Three haruans caught over the past few days were released as well into the pond, even the big one mentioned in my earlier blog. A nice feeling to release them but I guess no many people think the same way. I have seen many gun wielding macho man standing on top of their 4X4 cruising around looking for living things to shoot. It is crazy but they actually derive joy from killing for the sake of killing. Sad but another reality we have to accept and live with. Just last evening, we heard a gun shot and next thing you know, a big bird perch on a big tree next to the main road fell right down to the ground below… best part was the ‘brave’ gunman was not even interested to pick up his trophy, guess it is just target practice for him. I do not think it is a good idea to allow people to carry guns. How can we protect wildlife when so many people in these areas are issued with gun licenses? This world is a confusing place…. Awareness and enlightenment is not hip and in trend. A hedonistic lifestyle is preferred, a self-centric approach is the order of the day. Go with the flow, let it take you the wide and straight path…
