Went to Kuantan yesterday with my dear wife as she had matters to attend to there. We spent the night there as it was getting late and I was too tired to drive. Getting old lah! I remember how I use to drive out of town for work and could take a late night drive back from Penang reaching home in the wee hours of the morning. How I stop at Bidor to have tea and chee cheong fun at 1-2am before making the remaining journey back. Those days the highway was only ready for the Jelapang and Changkat Jering stretch. The winding roads and numerous trucks I had to overtake. It is truly a miracle that God has preserve and kept me safe. It is good to sit down and recall these memories, memories of how life used to be and how we live.
Anyway, we managed to buy some dried seafood from Kuantan, some ikan bilis, dried shrimps, 'mui heong ham yue' and others. It is a nice mini break for me... as the last few days was tough work for us. We put up a total of 12 pillars, solid 4X4 'nyatoh king' 12-14ft length. Really heavy as we set them in place, anchor them to prepare for the pouring of concrete. Trust me when I tell you that it is really back breaking work, Praise the Lord! It is up, the concrete foundation is done and what remains is the rest... Ha! And it all starts tomorrow. Overall, I must say that despite of the tiredness and fatigue that comes with the physical exertion, the sense of accomplishment, achievement and fulfillment is indescribable. These things that we do here at the farm would only yield their fruits in the future but the immediate benefit is the sore muscles and limbs.
Meanwhile the chicks are doing alright though I wish it better. Some chicks are weak and do die despite of our efforts, after more that 2 weeks, most have grown a fair bit while a few are no bigger than when they first got here, these usually are the ones that leave us. Well, guess the mortality rate is higher here as we adopt an antibiotic-free environment. Once the new barn is completed, we will move some of the chickens to the new structure and bring in the next batch of chicks. We would also be selecting some for the sole purpose of egg laying and another group of hens and maybe 2-3 cockerels for breeding purposes. Hope we can put up the structure this week, or latest next week.
Dinner tonight was delicious and great, my wife who is getting better by the day with her cooking made some pumpkin with shrimps, chicken and a steam 'chong yue'. The fish is very fresh as we pick it up from the fisherman's market in Berserah. We normally bring our cooler box whenever we are in Kuantan to buy fresh catch that they have landed. The barred mackerel is fresh, in fact everything we bought there is fresh and the prices are reasonable, of course it is cheaper than prices here and in KL. But the main criteria are the freshness... you got to eat a fresh 'chong yue' to know what I am talking about. The prophet brought his mum down to join us for dinner and it is nice to have them around. OK. Got to go now, will write again soon.. Take care and please take time to read God's word. He wants to speak to us.
