It Is Heavy!

Did some clearing work this morning, there was a small two storey hut build with timber in the land. This hut was demolished as it was of no use to us, the contractor just left the rubble at one corner of the land and I have had difficulty removing the rubble as some of the timber were very long and heavy. I clear some of the timber whenever I have the ‘mood’ and today was one such day. As I was removing one very long 6”X6” sawn timber I almost drop it as it was really heavy. That was when I realize how heavy the cross of Jesus must be. He could have just gave up and refuse to proceed, I mean what else could they do? They were going to kill him anyway so Jesus could have chosen to end it there and then instead of going all the way up to the hill. That struck me as a man with a strong resolve, He went on despite of the pain and humiliation, He did not give up. He had a mission and he was going to complete it, same reason why I did not drop the timber and have a drink instead. I mean, if I’m noy going to do it, who is going to? In Jesus’ case if he isn’t going to go up to Calvary, just who else could take his place? Compared to carrying a cross, the piece of timber I carried was insignificant. It must have been real tough for Jesus to do what he did. He did it for a purpose, he did it for you and I.

Pick up your cross and carry it if you want to follow Jesus. No one can do it for you! It is no easy task as it is heavy and the journey leads you up the hill, best part is you get to give up what you hold most dear, your life! If a seed does not fall to the ground and die, how could we gain life? I have a lot of timber left to be carried and each time I do it, I’ll remember the walk Jesus took for me. A lonely and painful walk…. He died for us so that we may have life. Are you experiencing abundant life? Maybe we aren’t ‘cause we refuse to carry our own crosses…
